Emmanuel’s Notre Dame Campus is also the hub of the College’s new Urban Food Project, which will provide nutritional education and information, as well as urban gardening strategies, for low-income families in the neighborhood. In the spring, Emmanuel students will plant and maintain an urban garden at the campus, develop a food distribution process and offer workshops, cooking classes and tips on nutrition and healthy lifestyles for families.

This morning, ASB students (with the help of urban gardening expert and Roxbury resident Patti Moreno, also know as Patti the Garden Girl from Garden Girl TV) planted seedlings for the new garden, which will be kept in the greenhouse on the main campus until the snow melts and they can be transplanted to the new garden.

In the afternoon, the group prepared dinner for the women and children of Nazareth House. There, the group led workshops on planting small herb gardens and on shopping on a budget.
