In July 2014, Emmanuel began a partnership with Casella Waste Systems to revamp our existing waste and recycling program. Since then we have introduced single-stream recycling and composting to campus. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the results we have seen so far!

Here are some of the highlights since July:
• 70,600 pounds of materials recycled
• 39,200 pounds of food waste diverted from landfills

If you think that’s impressive, since starting our single-stream recycling program, we have seen a 39% decrease in trash going to landfills and 84% increase in recycling!*

Single-stream recycling allows users to conveniently place all recyclable items, such as newspaper, cardboard, mixed paper, magazines, aluminum and plastic, all in one bin. Still not sure if something is recyclable? Click here to see what is accepted in our program. You will also find this information on or near the bins across campus.

Behind the scenes, Bon Appétit staff has been hard at work capturing food scraps during meal preparation. This is known as back-of-the-house composting. The Facilities Department is excited to work with Bon Appétit to expand the program to allow our students to take a more active role through front-of-the-house composting.
